Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #6 (It's like Bernie Sanders is truly here in the room with me!)
By John Bell the Librarian • Issue #6 • View online
For my part, this week I’m mostly caring for and then mourning the loss of Library Cat Beesknees, but I also created some animated Aleister Crowley portraits, sent out Postal Exchange for Patrons, checked out a sample Bernie Mittens Baphomet sticker for fun and quality control; and, as always, worked on the website, blog, and more … Enjoy!
Also, I’m sending this out on Wednesday instead of Friday as an experiment. I’m hoping to find out if there’s a better day of the week to send this out. By better, I mean more people who are subscribed open this. And, maybe click a link as frosting on top. The percent has been a little low, but, even so, it’s still way better than any of my regular social media accounts! That’s generally what I was hoping and so that’s a result!
Everyone who is subscribed but isn’t reading this, let me know when I can send it so you’d read it. j/k! (“Anyone not here, raise your hand …”)
Thank you for reading this newsletter! This is now the first month already and done! Huzzah!
I think it is going pretty well. I’ll say I get a little stressed about the extra work, and there’s a twinge of panic after sending each issue when I realize I’ve got an entirely empty draft for the next one. But, from my perspective, in addition to reaching a larger percent of people than social media, this is going way, way better than the previous try at doing a newsletter!
What do you think so far? Let me know! And, would you consider helping spread the word and recommend this newsletter to others you know who would be interested?

Aleister Crowley. Animated.
Three iconic portraits. Not Animated.
Three iconic portraits. Not Animated.
You’ve probably been seeing a lot of these lately, of various famous people, being posted. After seeing ones of Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allen Poe, I wanted to see what a few of Aleister Crowley’s iconic images would look like, animated.
You can try it out, but keep in mind that they keep the photos you upload, and they can end up in a public gallery, and you can only animated two without subscribing, per account sign in. So, be aware of what they’re doing behind the fun.
But, I took the hit so you don’t have to, unless you want to with eyes open to the warnings above, and created two logins just so I could get these three. Kinda cool and definitely fun! Add an animated Crowley with a GPT-3 trained on all the texts at the library?! Yeah, that would be wild, and probably have some pretty interesting results.

Postal exchange
After a weather related delay, I was able to get Postal Exchange envelopes out for Patrons with Physical or Deluxe perks!

Included in this trip to the post office was a giveaway for two copies of Hermetic Library Fellow Michael Osiris Snuffin‘s new book The Complete Conjuring Spirits: A Manual of Modern Sorcery which I had as a special offer for Patrons on Patreon.

Bernie Mittens Baphomet sticker sample
This year I’m trying out some new merch rewards for Patrons. This one is a 4x4 inch sticker with my Berniemit(tens) / Baphomet meme design, which I created, back in January, and posted to all my social media. Closest, I think, I’ve ever come to going viral!

I just got a sample of this, for fun and quality control. I’m looking at it close up and it turned out really, really good. I’m actually surprised how good! It’s like Bernie Sanders is truly here in the room with me! Well, okay, not quite, but close …
After I set this up, I learned that I could also put multiple stickers on one sheet and have the shapes pre-cut around the images, or have the edge cut around a central image, instead of using the full sheet. That’s kinda cool too and I’ll know for next time!

The White Tyger
In memoriam
Goodbye Library Cat Beesknees Hypotenuse Pteropus! In spite of a life of injury, hardship, and, frankly, horror, before we met in 2016; she flourished and was an amazing, lovely, and loving companion. Help me send her on her way by having her in your kind thoughts for a while.
